I'm Leaving

This tune was conceived at Skerray near Tongue in Sutherland when I was on holiday in May 1973.  It is discriptive of the environment in that region.

Reading the book Papillon made a great impression on me.  This tune is representative of the time Papillon himself spent with the Guajaira Indians and I have visions of him dancing with them.  The rhythm of the music is that of the Joropo - A Venezuelan dance.

Sheet Music Here

A short reflective pastoral piece. It reminds me of green fields, sunshine, broken clouds and skylarks.

Sheet Music Here

On reading Resurgence Magazine in the spring of 1989 I was horrified to learn of the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.  I have combined two previous compositions, Reflections and Remember You and added a third section to create a new piece that goes some way to expressing my feelings.

Sheet Music Here

Calm sunlit waters in the early evening with a gentle swell breaking on the shore.

Sheet Music Here

A nostalgic impression of the Andes - High Mountians, clear air and condors - and maybe llamas too!  Partly inspired by the music of Brazillian guitarist Baden Powell.

Sheet Music Here

A light airy piece with a strong melody and moving bass line.  It makes people feel like dancing.

Sheet Music Here

This tune grew over a period of several months. The arpeggio passages, inspired by the music of Paraguayan guitarist Augustin Barrios, contrast with the melody and rhythm of the middle section.

Sheet Music Here

On hearing 'Dedicatoria' by Granados, played by Julian Bream, I was most impressed by the clarity of the piece.  I hope I have managed to express the same feeling in my composition.

Sheet Music Here

Many years ago, 1966, I used to perform at the Ipswich folk club where barge skipper, Bob Roberts, sang sea shanties.  This tune reminds me of him.

Sheet Music Here

A bit of comic relief - listen for the slide on the bass string.

Sheet Music Here

Written for my friend Paul, who joined the Western Buddhist Order and was given a new name, this piece again shows the Barrios influence.

Sheet Music Here

Dedicated to my wife Maureen, this piece was influenced by the music on a Pat Metheny record given to my by one of my former pupils.

Sheet Music Here

Originally composed in 1974 with a third section added in 1989, this piece is a mixture of country and ragtime.  Light hearted and fun.

Sheet Music Here

A short tune in swing jazz style, a 32 bar standard, composed as a melody to a chord sequence that one of my pupils was learing.  It has proved highly popular with guitar students.

Sheet Music Here

The moon sails serenely through the night sky shedding her light upon the gently rippling waters.

Sheet Music Here

Travelling joyfully in hope and expectation, this can mean going from one place to another or an inner exploration.

Sheet Music Here

The wind makes its presence felt but is not seen, like the soul of man it can journey unhindered and free.

Sheet Music Here

Inspired by the flying feet in the musical Riverdance.

Sheet Music Here

Images of dancers at a grand festive occasion.

Sheet Music Here

A Spanish nobleman mounted on a fine horse is off on a quest, could it be Don Quixote, El Cid or maybe you or me.

Sheet Music Here

Is this a tune for line dancing? Or maybe a description of the wide open spaces that we love to escape to?

Sheet Music Here

Walking out in the early morning dew on a summer morning with the sun shining through the trees and the mist rising in the valley.

Sheet Music Here

Sitting at the big window in the kitchen playing the guitar and watching the clouds form and re-form over distant hills.

Sheet Music Here

A mountian pass with the wind whistling through.  I sit halfway up the rocky hillside watching the mist swirling about me.

Sheet Music Here

An impression of the landscape of the Heddon Valley and the Valley of the Rocks near Lynton in North Devon.

Sheet Music Here

I was sitting playing the Guitar in my favourite place in the kitchen watching the bat flying round in circles just outside the window.

Sheet Music Here

This tune came about when some of my family went to live in the USA.  to me it speaks of hope and new beginnings.
